Kelly Flats is notorious for Heart Attack Hill--an extremely steep and rocky climb near the beginning of the trail. The connecting pass to Ruedi Reservoir from the east, Hagerman Pass is a great drive for all vehicle types. Take Road 520 west for 18.1 miles. Open all the way. There was a flatbed tow truck that skid off into the ditch on the way up the east side of the pass that made getting around it rather difficult since it was a narrow potion of the road. Providing trails that range in difficulty as they climb into the mountains, this is one of the best places in southern Colorado to get in a long, scenic ride. Overall this wasnt a challenging route, just a nice long scenic drive with lots to stop and see along the way. Containing a large mix of trails for all vehicle types, this area has something to offer all skill levels as well. Aspens were just starting to turn, lots of wildlife (pack of ~5 wolves, some deer, critters, etc). There are some smoother sections and some very pleasant stretches in between, but you will spend A LOT of time crawling up and down through a lot of trees with just a bunch of broken rocks as your road base. It then departs from Silverton at 2:45pm and arrives in Durango at 4:15pm. What area do you recommend? Primarily ATV and singletrack trails, the Groundhog Park area offers a mix of more advanced riding opportunities.
